Overview:
The Tanio Koba VP70 is a treasure sought after by many collectors, revered for its iconic design and the illustrious history of its creator, Tanio Koba. Known as a pioneer in airsoft development, Mr. Koba played a vital role at nearly every Japanese airsoft manufacturing company. The VP70 itself boasts a robust polymer body with aluminum internals. However, due to their age—about 20 years—the piston cups tend to dry rot, but at AllenAirsoft, we replace these before shipping. This model uniquely transforms from a pistol to an SMG with its "stock holster," which also enables the signature 3-round burst.
Quality:
The external quality of this pistol is exceptional, especially given its age. While entirely made of polymer, it is of superior quality—far surpassing Tokyo Marui and comparable to MGC's later series of pistols. It features roughly 80% accurate trademarks, though there is a prominent "Designed by Tanio Koba" on the side of the slide. The slide is equipped with non-adjustable sights and user-friendly grooves for easy handling. The frame showcases perfectly accurate trademarks and has a beautifully textured surface. You'll find a metal trigger and safety, with all other external parts, including the "holster," made of plastic. It’s important to handle the stock holster correctly to avoid damage. The right way to open it is by pushing inward at the front of the stock and then lifting it; allow it to naturally unhinge from there. Internals:
Internally,
the VP70 is robust, featuring an oversized internal hammer, a well-designed trigger bar, and durable ball bearing sears. This model includes an adjustable hop-up and is often equipped with the renowned cyclone barrel system. Note that it uses proprietary magazines. The slide has a standard blowback unit found in most TM spec pistols (excluding WA and Marushin models). The VP70 operates with a fixed barrel design, which some believe enhances accuracy—though this is debatable in airsoft circles. Regarding the mentioned "Stock Holster," it doubles as a belt-mounted holster that can be attached to the rear of the pistol to serve as a stock. The stock includes a lever allowing users to switch between 3-round burst and single fire modes, operating on a unique ratchet design.
